First up we will be hearing from Nina Swanwick for an insight into how she built something remarkable – achieving a gender balanced team followed by Rachel Ferla reporting back on the results of her study on the benefits of inclusivity in the workplace. We’ve also opened up three spots for lightning talks from ShfWIT members.
We are Women In Tech so let’s demonstrate our remarkable and resilient sides by taking our meetup online for the first time! Let’s rise to the challenge of keeping everyone safe from Covid-19 but not let it put us off our stride!

After having a 5 month fun employment period in 2017, an opportunity too good to turn down was offered. To set up a brand new Digital team in Sheffield, attached to the greater UK Digital team based primarily in London and Norwich. Diversity targets were not set, except by myself. I had already initiated a Northern network for gender diversity at my old employer, I’d gone on Northern Voices and taught Code First Girls. Diversity was my personal passion and this was finally a chance to get some ‘Balance’ and to create a team I was totally invested in. Fast forward 2 years and there is a 50/50 balance of gender diversity, plus wide age range and a variety of ethnicities represented.
