The where, the what and the how of careers in tech
Join us for this virtual meet-up as we delve into the world of digital careers. Whether you’re simply curious about the (many) different careers out there, currently looking to retrain, actively job hunting, or wondering about your next steps in the tech world, these are the conversations you want to join!
Agenda:
“The where”: A presentation from Ceri Batchelder (TEAM SY) and Lauren Shale (IoT Engine) giving an overview of the amazing range of companies/organisations in our region that recruit in tech, followed by Q&A.
“The what”: Brief introductions to some of the varied roles available in tech, followed by breakout room discussions facilitated by ambassadors for each of those roles. Find out more about a day in the life of a job you’re curious about, or discover careers you didn’t even know existed!

“The how”: A presentation from Ben Atha (The Developer Academy) giving an overview of the varied pathways into tech and the progression and development opportunities once you’re there, followed by Q&A.
There will also be opportunities for virtual networking, as well as practical takeaways/resources for all attendees.
Our speakers
Ceri Batchelder
Ceri is a Super Connector for TEAM SY, a Capital Enterprise project aiming to join up the South Yorkshire tech ecosystem. She has significant experience and a longstanding interest in tech and innovation, developed throughout her career – from her time as a researcher at Harvard University, to her role as director of a creative & digital agency.
Lauren Shale
Lauren is the Programme Coordinator for IoT Engine, based at Barnsley’s Digital Media Centre. After leading on a research project about Employment and Skills opportunities in the region, she developed a keen interest in the digital ecosystem. Lauren is passionate about supporting others to innovate and grow, and building stronger connections with SMEs in our region.
Ben Atha
Ben is the founder and director of The Developer Academy, a coding and data science bootcamp. From his own experience, he knows the difficulty many digital businesses face in finding employees with the right skills, and is passionate about ensuring there are flexible retraining options to help people to gain the skills needed to fill in-demand jobs.
